So now that I am taking Peace Studies at Selkirk College, I have found ways that hula hooping, and movement arts in general can be used as a peacebuilding tool. It allows for inner peace and transformation of the individual-- it also offers a way to transform relationships and get people out into the community together-- being co-creative beings. It works on the individual and community level to create groups of people that have an evident mind/body/soul connection, or in other words, the freedom expressed through dance-- a way in which life has been celebrated all over the world, past many cultures and centuries.
I am allowing the creatie self-expression in my life to inspire others (I hope) and am putting it to use in my courses at school. I was asked to create a service-learning project that would help a community or person. I decided that I wanted to team up with my friend Dana to offer free yoga/poi and hula hoop lessons once a week for 5 weeks straight. We have been meeting up at Selkirk College in the gym (Castlegar) every friday at 530 ( til 7 pm). All ages 14+ are welcome. Please don't hesitate to bring a friend, we really love introducing the movement arts to as many people as we can! ;) Further down the road, I will be going to the Philippines thanks to a scholarship I received from the Irving K. Barber Foundation. There I will be learning at a Peacebuilding Institute in Mindanao and I will also be trying to implement a mini project that I have set for myself --- sourcing materials, constructing and giving away as many hoops as I can!

I was able to donate 7 hula hoops to the Nelson Women's Centre. I hope they get lots of use, or find loving homes :) There's nothing like giving hoops away, it makes me so happy.
look out for the long awaited changes to the website.... AND I will be selling hoops at the Waneta Christmas Craft Fair in the mall in Trail on the 26th and 27th of this month .... I will also have christmas hoops (christmassy colours) available, hit me up for all your hoopy needs this christmas! :)
Been a while since I last posted.
The much thought about and talked about upgrades to my site will be happening soon. I have been super busy with school since getting back from one of the most incredible adventures of my life. Black Rock City is in my heart, and the playa dust still feels like its in my lungs some days. It was awesome to connect with such a deep vibration on love and life and wanting to celebrate that in any way imaginable. It has to be experienced... words don't do it justice. Honestly.. One another note, I will be doing a couple fall/xmas craft fairs this season. And new hoops designs on the way... which I am testing out. Well not really a design.. but a diff type of tubing and connector collaboration. Happy hooping-- Namaste. x I've applied for a couple more markets/festivals for we will see when/where we will be vending at next.
In the meantime I'm getting ready for Shambhala and have much to plan and create for costumes and hoops :) You will be able to find me roaming around with the hulas, and if you are so inclined, I will have some for sale, too ;) August 3rd gets here real quick! ahh! Then it's off to burningman @ the end of august! :D So depending on your style, I can make you a custom hoop.
Here's my most recent order for Jayme. :) She bought hoops for her 12- year-old nieces. How cool! The Kootenay Festival turned out to be a lot of fun, and also a huge success for ApsaraHoops. Going to be doing a lot more vending in the future, I think!
The performance went really well, too, and we had a great amount of positive feedback. Looking forward to more festivals and more hooping to great music! :) ApsaraHoops will have a vendor both setup at the Kootenay Festival in Castlegar on July 16th. click here for more info on the event.
Also, look for a performance by my group, Illuminadis, 2 the Gallery Stage at 12pm sharp. I will be performing with my hoops and poi :) Dana and Rachel are part of our Kootenay Festival trio, as well :) Yikes! Took me way too long to get these images up, but the pictures from Sayulita are up in the 'Hoops' section ----in the slideshow at the bottom. Susan from Spin City Hoops, and I (ApsaraHoops) both made hoops with love to be donated to unsuspecting kidlets in Sayulita, Mexico.
Part of the purchase proceeds from ApsaraHoops goes towards making these hoops, and getting hoops in the hands of those who cannot afford to buy their own. :) Thank you for all the support. And big thanks to Susan and Joanna for delivering the hoops! x the hoops have landed in mexico! yay! I sent 3--- small number, but susan didn't want to have too much to carry, so with her contribution, we will have given away 5 hoops to the children of Sayulita, Mexico~! woo hoo! Pics coming soon, via Susan and Jo :)
